BLUE SPRUCE 'BLUE DIAMOND' EVERGREEN CONIFER

Dwarf variety of blue spruce. Silver-blue needles and a naturally pyramidal growth habit. Very nice as a solitary, in a pot or in mixed conifer plantings. Grows slowly, 10-15 cm per year. Easy to grow, thrives in most well-drained soils.

Beautiful spruce with a dense, conical habit. The bars are long and prickly with a beautiful steel blue color. The new growth is even more intense steel blue to gray in color. In autumn, light brown large cones are formed, which are beautiful in contrast to the steel blue bar. The blue spruce 'Blue Diamond' is truly a plant that gives the garden a brilliant silhouette all year round. The variety is often sold in pots during Advent to be able to decorate, for example, an entrance until Christmas.

Grows best in sun on well-drained, moisture-retaining and humus-rich soils. Copes with dry conditions once established. Spruce trees are rarely pruned, but can be pruned if you prune on green shoots and annual growth. If you prune deeper, you risk destroying the plant because firs do not break new wood on old wood. When cutting into shapes such as globes and hedges, this is done in June-July when the new annual shoots have developed. It is these annual shoots that are cut every year. Blue firs are really beautiful as cut globes. Planted as a solitary plant or in groups, preferably together with other evergreen plants.
